Barges are boats, aren't they?  Another one from Corpus Christi...

Bookmark - Mississippi Tug (Boats)

Have enough to do a series on boats.  This guy was captured on a Mississippi River tour with the 3MP Fujifilm 7000 point-and-shoot.

Bookmark - Navasota Waterfall (Landscapes)

To cap off the Landscape series of bookmarks, here's a sort of mini-landscape captured on the Navasota River.  The falls here are 8-12 inches in height.

Bookmark - Lake at the Houston Zoo (Landscapes)

Since it was captured with the Bigger Cahoona, this two-shot panorama would make a nice print eight feet across, but looks good on a 4- or 5-inch bookmark as well.

Bookmark - Lake District Lake House (Landscapes)

How ideal is this...a remote lake house in England's Lake District!  Captured this guy while we were on a boat tour of Windermere Lake.  It was windy too, and cold, on that September day in 2018.

Bookmark - Sutton Bank (Landscapes)

It had been raining some that day, but the weather cleared enough to capture a decent landscape.  The road below wound steeply up to where we were, and was made famous in the Herriot writings when the vet had to ascend backwards in his car because the first forward gear wouldn't do the trick.

It was worth it, however, because he often wrote of this very vista upon reaching the top.  In fact, between farm calls he would deliberately stop here - if it was on his way - so that he and his dog could just sit and rest, soaking in the beauty of the landscape.

Bookmarks - Gormire Lake (Landscapes)

This is Gormire Lake, in the Sutton Bank National Park, made famous by the inimitable Jim Wight - a.k.a. James Herriot.  Our visit there marked the ticking off of a true bucket list item during a trip to the Northern Lake District with my son.  We decided to hike a trail to its shores, which was quite a trek!  It was there that this reflection shot was captured and made into another bookmark:

Bookmark - Ambleside Vacation Cottages (Landscapes)

We had already crested the felltop and were circling our way back into town when this popped into view.  In a growing fad over there, these vacation cottages are bunched into their own little neighborhood.  Some locals have complained that they are an unsightly blot on the landscape, but I think they look pretty good.

Bookmark - Ambleside Rock Wall (Landscapes)

Really, really love these rock walls that are everywhere, and as seen in yesterday's post there is sometimes a matching shed built right into it.  The allure of shots like this is that exactly the same scenes could be - and probably were - seen by shepherds here a thousand years ago.  But, as explained in this post, these were far from permanent...

Bookmarks - Ambleside Landscapes #'s 2, 3 and 4 (Landscapes)

Since these three are so similar and captured at the same location, will just post them all here.  Looking at them now, this was a great opportunity to do a super-sized panorama, but didn't think of it at the time.  As it stands, each of these individually would print nicely in sizes up to three feet in width.

Bookmark - Ambleside Landscape #1 (Landscapes)

At first when landscapes were considered for bookmarks I wondered whether squeezing them into the necessary dimensions would do them justice.  Of course nothing can compare to what you see while there, or how they're represented on a large print, but decided the results were passable so continued the series.

This is a fairly typical shot of the English countryside.  Andrew and I were extraordinarily lucky because, in spite of a rainy forecast, the weather was great that day.

Bookmark - Felltop Gate (Landscapes)

Now that we're done with flowers and plants-other-than-flowers, we'll move on to another category, Landscapes.  Most of these will be from England, captured while there with my son.  This one I've labeled Felltop Gate because it was on the crest of a fell near Ambleside in the Northern Lake District.  As is almost always the case, I broke away from the crowd (about 50 college-age youngsters reached the top right after us) and snapped a few people-less photos.

At first I thought landscapes would be difficult to fit onto a bookmark, but they've turned out well.  As in the others, all of these have been created in four- and five-inch sizes.

Bookmarks - Driveway Mushroom #3 (Other Plants that Are Not Really Plants)

And finally the last of the driveway mushroom series.  Very much worth being sprawled out on my cardboard bed on the driveway.  There's room for lettering in both of these...

My very favorite bookmark featuring plants-other-than-flowers.  Captured years ago with the Fuji 7000 while on a visit to North Carolina.

Bookmark - Betel Nut Silhouette (Other Plants and Foliage)

If you've followed this blog at all you know that a favorite subject is silhouettes.  This betel nut forest was captured during an early morning hike up in the mountains of Formosa, near my wife's hometown, back in 2019.

Bookmark - Winged Elm (Other Plants and Foliage)

One morning during a Girl Scout outing in Trinity County I got up and scoured the area for pic opportunities, while the air was still and quiet.  Sometimes you go out and everything clicks into place, and this was one of those times.  Some gumball pics from that shoot were made into bookmarks, and the entire 12-picture series is posted here.  All with the Fujifilm 7000 point-and-shoot.

Bookmark - Cypress Branch Pattern (Other Plants and Foliage)

It's pics like these branch patterns that make wintertime my favorite season to shoot.  This was captured at the Houston Zoo, but a very similar one was also gleaned from a shoot in Switzerland back in 2014 (though that one was in summer, not winter).

Another branch pattern, this one captured at the Zedler Mill before it was renovated for the tourist trade.  Posted originally as part of the series created back in December of 2008.

Bookmark - New Taipei Palm Trees (Other Plants and Foliage)

This is among the first bookmarks I made, and was surprised when it became one of the most popular when recipients were given a choice.  Captured in New Taipei alongside one of the larger temples there.

Bookmarks - Foliage at the Houston Zoo (Other Plants and Foliage)

First post with four bookmarks at once!  These were all captured with the Bigger Cahoona at or near the Houston Zoo in 2018.

As mentioned in posts before, one might wonder why all the energy to create bookmarks, when fewer and fewer folks read hard-copy books nowadays.  Well, for some reason I feel compelled to just keep doing it, so here we are...more than 500 so far, and hopefully many, many more to come.

One of my favorite pics overall, originally posted here in its fuller extent.  Many photos captured at a zoo might have nothing to do with the animals, but subjects like this that call out as you walk by...
