Remembering this post from days gone by, captured with the Fujifilm s7000, I decided to see if the Big Cahoona could do justice to a similar shot of the structure. Not too bad if you ask me. And as always with intricate patterns, the Glowing Edges effect is worth a look-see:

Europe 2014 - Paris, Notre Dame - Rooftop Figures
The green guys jutting up into the sky got me interested in this angle...guess they're made of copper.
Incredible that building this place got started in 1160 and was finally finished in 1345. The church that this cathedral replaced was built in the 400's and was no longer considered worthy of being the "Parish church of the kings of Europe".

Europe 2014 - Paris, Notre Dame Priest with Spire
Made a 16x20 print of this guy and stuck it up in my cubicle at work. Incredible workmanship by those craftsmen so many hundreds of years ago...

Europe 2014 - Paris, Notre Dame Frontside
We landed nearby and came back around to see the structure from this more familiar angle. Notice all my shots here are angled up, away from the vast crowds and long line to go inside.
One of the highlights of my previous visit to Paris was actually going in and breaking away from the moving line of tourists to sit and enjoy the start of a real service there. It was amazing, and moving. Pics are posted here and here (scrolling down to the bottom).

Europe 2014 - Paris, Notre Dame from the River
The wife was tired one day and just wanted to chill, so Allison and I struck out on our own and took a boat ride down the River Seine. This came into view as we were rounding a bend and presented an angle I hadn't seen before of the church. Quite a place...

Europe 2014 - Paris, Getting Around with Awesome Tricycle
Who can resist this mode of transportation? I tend to wait until the driver is looking away before snapping photos of their rides...

Europe 2014 - Paris, Getting Around with Herbie
There's something cool about the way Europeans travel and how they get around. I find that these are among my favorite kinds of pictures to take wherever we travel...be they of unusual cars, horse-drawn wagons of various types, motorcycles piled high with family members, or baby buggies.

Europe 2014 - Paris Lock Background
Ever in search of a good background, found the shot above irresistible.
"In like manner..." Ever in search of splashing color patterns on a black background, could not resist applying glowing edges, as seen below:

Europe 2014 - Paris Locks Upon Locks
Then we saw this (on another bridge) and weren't surprised. After we returned to the States it became international news when the railing on these very bridges bent down and collapsed under the tremendous weight that accumulated by lovers making a wish...

Europe 2014 - Paris Bridge Locks
And ah yes, the locks. We had not yet heard of this before arriving in Europe, so it surprised us. Not welcome by all, though. Just out of the frame on the right, at the end of the bridge, was a guy that tried to sell passersby some locks but was quickly chased away by the authorities. I didn't understand...what could the harm be in selling something like a lock?

In doing so, discovered that I'm not finished with the Europe 2014 series, so this begins the continuation:
