One of my Mexican friends the other day asked why this is called the Lone Star State (using the Spanish word). It was his first visit to the U.S., and his first immersion into the culture of this country, so had lots of questions.Being from Texas certainly is a source of pride for any responsible citizen, and I felt a twinge of that pride as I answered his questions. This is such a unique state, with such a rich history. San Antonio, the epicenter of much of that history, is where this picture was taken.
