Taiwan 2024 - Alishan, the Manji

I was surprised to learn that the symbol atop this sign is still called a swastika, though it predates and has nothing to do with His-Awfulness-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named from Germany.  Here in the Far East it is also known as the "manji" and symbolizes Buddha's footprints and heart.

The district of Alishan is obviously in the mountains, so most towns have a network of steps that wind through the business and residential areas.  Wouldn't it be so, so cool to live in such a town?  Ah, the dreams of a new retiree...

Some more pretty flowers, planted in front of someone's home or business.  That kid had no idea he would become famous as a subject of this ever-expanding, world-wide blog.

Taiwan 2024 - Alishan, Pretty Red Flowers with Glowing Edges Effect

Alishan being quite the tourist hot spot, there are lots of flowers and other colorful plants strategically placed here and there.  Decided to try out the glowing edges effect in Photoshop for a portion of this one:

Speaking of Photoshop, I decided to bite the bullet and re-subscribe to the latest and greatest.  I'd been working more than a dozen years with CS6, but realized that it can't go on forever.  So I've adjusted and now feel more comfortable working with PS 2024.  In fact, due to the advances in the software, there is a reduced workload in post-capture adjustments.

From here on the photos will be more/less random in their presentation.  Not sure about what fruit this is, but liked the way branches provided a frame for the one poking down.

Taiwan 2024 - Alishan, Entire Sculpture with Hands Clasped

Even more impressive is the entire sculpture, with the hands clasped at the top.  One of the most phenomenal works of art we saw in Taiwan during this trip.

Chenjean standing next to a huge foot, obviously carved out of one of those huge trees.  Looks to me like a single piece of wood, which is possible.

 ...the kind of old and rustic sign that I like.  This advertises a vendor that sells a very popular pastry a few steps to the left.
